Gods of Ancient Egypt Essay - 763 Words

Did you know that there were over 2,000 gods and goddesses in Ancient Egypt? Some gods had the body of a human and the head of an animal. When I read that, I was shocked! I would’ve never guessed that there would be so many gods in Egypt. In addition, I found the idea of an animal head stuck to a human body disgusting! I just didn’t believe this, so I decided to find out for myself. The Ancient Egyptian were polytheistic most of the time, which means that they believed in multiple gods. When Akhenaten was pharaoh, the Egyptians were monotheistic, meaning they worshiped only one god. He ended the worship of other gods and claimed that Aten, the lord of all was the only god in Egypt. The Egyptians didnt like this idea, so on their own,†¦show more content†¦Geb’s laugh was said to be the cause of earthquakes. As the Earth god one of his jobs were to guide the dead to the underworld. He is shown wearing the crown of northern or southern Egypt. Sometimes, he is shown with green skin to show the vegetation, but other times, he has dark skin to represent the fertile soil of Ancient Egypt. In pictures Geb is leaning on an elbow with one knee up. He lies under the air (Shu) and the sky (Nut). Geb’s son, Osiris, was the god of afterlife. He was murdered by his own brother Seth, which they think was the cause of the droughts, but his miraculous rebirth caused the flooding of the Nile valley. He was married to his sister Isis and had a son named Horus. Osiris also had another sister, Nephthys. It was said that Osiris was the one who brought civilization to the ancient Egyptian. He left and showed the Egyptians many things, but while he was gone Seth planned to kill him. His plan worked, he killed Osiris and threw him into the Nile River, but Isis found his body only to let Seth rip it into 14 pieces. Isis and Nephthys worked together and found every piece except one, which was eaten by the Nile fish. Isis recovered him just long enough to have Horus, which would be the future king of Egypt. Isis was the goddess of magic. She was the sister of Nephthys, Seth, and Osiris. She was the daughter of Nut and Geb, and had a child named Horus with Osiris. She has the crown of the North and south. The majority of the aging population are baby boomers, people born from 1946 to 1964 with an average life expectancy of 70 to 80 years. Experts on baby boomers, Donald Redfoot, Lynn Feinberg, Ari Houser, Dr. Joanne Lynn (2013) and Dr. Elizabeth Bragg Jennie Hansen (2015) summarized that for independent living, seven out of ten people will be needing assistance for three of those years such as â€Å"bathing, dressing, preparing meals, or paying bills† (Bragg Hansen, 2015, p. 91; Redfoot, Feinberg, Houser, 2013; Lynn). With the caregivers’ ratio quickly decreasing to the care recipients, there must be solutions to counteract the amount of decreased workers. The first one is education; education is a pathway to better knowledge. Therefore, more emphasis on geriatric education will increase awareness for the elderly and the upcoming trials to support them. Also, spreading more important information about the elderly via social media would be efficient in this modern tim e. Next is the integration of robot caregivers. Several other countries such as Japan and parts of Europe are already developing ways to implement robot caregivers; the United States should adopt them because of the many benefits it can bring to the direct care of the aging population. They also established colorfastness, laundering and light ratings of the dyed materials and found these to be satisfactory for all these types. Coconut husks’ potential to impart red color comes as a necessary indulgence for textile manufacturers who use in great quantities the non-colorfast red dye from sibukao (Caesalpinnia sappan). The textile institute’s research study revealed that young coconut husks sourced from different locations produce varying shades of red. This required thus hue and color tint matching capabilities and adjustments in the dyeing parameters. In addition, DOST-PTRI found that coconuts from high elevations yield almost no color compared with coconuts from coastals and low- lying areas. This new use for young coconut husks holds promise for additional income for farmers. Likewise, the new technique’s requirement for compulsory chopping of husks before extraction facilitates rapid decomposition. This reduces the risk of clogging of waterways and drainage systems along coconut processing villages. Reinabelle Reyes, a PhD student at Princeton University and a BS Physics summa cum laude graduate at the Ateneo de Manila University in 2005, led a team of Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) scientists that discovered a large number of â€Å"hidden quasars† that are shrouded in light-absorbing dust and gas. According to Reyes, her team found around 900 hidden quasars, which is by far the largest sample ever found. â€Å"We found that hidden quasars make up at least half of the quasars in the nearby universe, implying that most of the powerful black holes in our neighborhood had previously been unrecognized,† she said. She added their discovery shows that powerful black holes are more common in the last eight billion years of cosmic history than had previously been thought and that the relative numbers of hidden compared to normal quasars show how the appearance of dust and gas determine the presence of a hidden quasar. The large number of hidden quasars we discovered implies that most of the light emitted by quasars is actually obscured. Moreover, because the light from these hidden quasars previously had been unaccounted for, black holes turn out to be more efficient in converting the energy of in-falling matter into light than we had thought,† she said. The research team presented its discovery last January 9 at the annual meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Austin, Texas, and has submitted a paper describing the research for publication in the Astronomical Journal.
